Optionality Protest

Protest Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 26, 2026 · Version 1.0

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through the property tax protest service offered by Optionality Ventures LLC at /protest (the "Protest Service"). Use of the broader Optionality platform is governed by the main Optionality Privacy Policy; this page describes only what is specific to the Protest Service.

2. What We Collect

To provide the Protest Service, we collect:

  • Property information you submit: address, parcel ID, assessed value, square footage, bedrooms, bathrooms, year built, and tax year.
  • Contact information you submit: email address and (optionally) name.
  • Payment metadata from Stripe when you purchase a Protest Packet: Stripe checkout session ID, payment status, and last four digits of the payment method (we never see or store full card numbers).
  • Generated content: the AI-generated comparable property estimates, fair-market value estimate, and the Protest Packet PDF.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser user-agent, and access timestamps, used for security and abuse prevention.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To generate your fair-market estimate and Protest Packet.
  • To deliver the Protest Packet and to provide secure return access for download (via a magic-link sent to your email).
  • To process payment via Stripe.
  • To send transactional emails (receipts, document-ready notifications, magic-link login).
  • To investigate abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms.

4. Sharing

We do not sell your information. We share data with the following service providers strictly for the purposes above:

  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • SendGrid — transactional email delivery.
  • Our AI provider — for generation of comparable estimates and the Protest Packet draft. Property and address information is included in the prompt; we do not include your email or other personal identifiers in AI prompts.
  • Hosting and database providers — for storing the records described above.

We may also disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Optionality, our users, or others.

5. Where Information Is Stored

Records are stored in PostgreSQL databases hosted in the United States. Generated PDFs are stored in our database and remain accessible to you indefinitely from your dashboard or via the magic-link sent to your email.

6. Your Choices

  • You can email protest@optionalityhq.com to request export or deletion of your Protest Service records.
  • You can stop using the Protest Service at any time. Unfinished sessions are deleted after 30 days.
  • Marketing emails (if any) include an unsubscribe link. Transactional emails (receipt, document-ready, magic-link) cannot be unsubscribed because they are required to deliver the Service you purchased.

7. Data Retention

We retain Protest Packet records and associated property data for as long as your account exists, so you can re-download the document. If you ask us to delete your data, we will delete it within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain payment or tax records.

8. Security

We use industry-standard transport encryption (TLS) for all traffic, and we encrypt our database backups at rest. Access tokens for return-link login are stored only as cryptographic hashes. No system is perfectly secure; you use the Protest Service at your own risk.

9. Children

The Protest Service is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy. The "Effective date" above will reflect the most recent change.
